Sailor Moon-summary

A thousand years ago, our moon was home to a great civilization ruled by Queen Serenity. Everything was peaceful, until the arrival of the evil Queen Beryl. To conquer the moon, Queen Beryl unleashed the awesome power of the Negaforce. Although her world was destroyed, Queen Serenity’s last hope was the power of the Imperium Silver Crystal and the Crescent Moon Wand. Frozen in Moon Beam Crystals, the queen sent the Moon Princess and the children of the moon to the future on Earth, their memories lost to them all. The queen’s cat advisors, Luna and Artemis, must find the princess so she will at last be safe. And so, our story begins... If you are looking for the autentic Japanese version or the live action version of this who, click one of the links below! Original Japanese Version: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Live Action Version: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Also, if you are looking for the fifth season guide, which has never been officially dubbed into English nor has a North American release and is not on this guide, click the next link! Fifth Season: Sailor Moon Stars (Editor's Note: There are two different guides for this anime for the drastic changes involved in the English dubbed version. The English version came before the Japanese one on TV Tome and both were kept for their many differences. Some conține voice actors, episode titles, original air dates, character names, plot lines and the deletion/combining of episodes; in fact, the Japanese title is longer. For these reasons and more the two guides have been kept and will remain so. One may argue that two seperate guides take up too much space. However, having one guide would also take up too much space. With TV.com's format, the difficulty of having different langauge voice actors great. When there is one guide (which is actually every other case on this site), most editors just choose the English voice actors, but this would not work with Sailor Moon because then the last season, missing episodes and specials would go uncredited. The guides are staying for now.) Sailor Moon is about Serena, a teenager who lives in Tokyo. She lived on the Moon Kingdom and was sent to Earth for protection. As evil rises, she and four of her friends must transform into the Sailor Scouts and save Earth, and the universe. Soon 4 more scouts appeared. 3 of which do not like working with the others. And the last Sailor Scout apears at the end of S Sailor Moon is the North American dub of the Japanese anime "Bishôjo senshi Sailor Moon". Sailor Moon was originally a Japanese comic, derived from the comic: Codename wa Sailor V. It was then turned into the anime we watch today! Main Villians (in order) - Negaverse: Queen Beryl - Doom Tree: Alan & Ann - Negamoon: Wiseman, Negru Moon Family - Fiore and Kisinean flower(R movie) - Bureau of Bad Behavior: Pharaoh 90 & Dr. Tomoe - Snow Queen Kaguya and Snow dancers (S movie) - Dark Moon Circus: Queen Nehellenia & Zirconia - Lady Badyannu and the 3o'clock fairies (SS movie) - Sailor Galaxia (Chaos)(un-dubbed as of yet) F.A.Q.s Why don't the enemies attack when the scouts transform or power up their attacks? The transformations and fancy movements are just for the veiwers sake. Theoretically, the transformations only take a second. For example: Rini's transformation. The only attack that they could possibly get interrupted is the Sailor Planet attack. Why doesn't anyone recognize the scouts in either form? (ie Sailor Moon vs Serena) According to Ken Arromdee, the webmaster of a fan site, the Sailors are most likely magically immune to being recognized. But sometimes once you know them, you can see the resemblence. There is a scout for every planet, is there a Sailor Earth? There is no Sailor Earth exactly. Prince Darien/Endymion/Tuxedo Mask is the protector of earth. What is that building that looks like the Eiffel Tower? That is the Tokyo Radio Tower. It sends and recieves signals. AND in all jap anime, important events happen at it, or something else. For example, Kaorinight's death happened there. And in Cardcaptors, Sakura's Final Judgement happened there. And in Medabots 'Metabee's Last Stand', the tower was totaled! Also a major battle in Rayearth happened there. So in some anime SOMETHING always happenes to that tower. Why doesn't Rini look a thing like her parents ie red eyes and pink hair? In my own personal opinion, she may have been born during a total lunar eclipse. The red glow of the moon effected her greatly. What happened to Sailor Pluto at the end of S? After she stopped time? What happened is that it was forbidden for a guardian of time to stop time, even thoguh she could. She was supposedly killed for this. But when she returns in Stars, she will no longer be guardian of time. What do the symbols on Raye's parchment mean? What about when she does 'Celestial fire? The symbols on the parchment mean Akuryo Taisan, or loosly translated: 'Evil spirits begone'. The symbols behind Mars when she does "Celestial fire i Beleive mean, Sun, Moon, Star, Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Love. Why does Fiore(R movie) look so much like Ann and Alan from the Doom Tree Saga? Thats because its possible he's from the same race. During the Tree of Life's travels, he may have become too weak for her to support him, or he may have been one to go on his own, or taken by a sibling and left alone. What happens to Hotaru during most of Stars? She doesnt fight most of the regular battles, due to her poor health. After the battle with Nehelenia she goes back to her father, till the other girls need her. THEME SONG {The tune is the same as the Japanese, but the words aren't} Fighting evil by moonlight, Winning love by daylight. Never running from a real fight, She is the one named Sailor Moon. She will never turn her back on a friend, She will always be there to defend. She is the one of whom you could depend. She is the one named Sailor... Sailor Venus! Sailor Mercury! Sailor Mars! Sailor Jupiter! The Secret powers are so new to her, She is the one named Sailor Moon. Fighting evil by moonlight. Winning love by daylight. When the Sailors get to help fight, She is the one named Sailor Moon. She is the one named Sailor Moon. She is the one, Sailor Moon! Bad Guys Who Went Good Nephlite: He worked for Queen Beryl. He first off used Molly as a tool to get to Sailor Moon. But when Molly protected him from the tiara and the dark crystal reacted to her love, he too felt love. He protected Molly from Zoicite, which cost him his life. Ann and Alan and the Doom Tree: They are from a distant planet. They live with the Tree of Life(?) When the tree almost killed Alan (after killing Ann) Sailor Moon prevented it. It explained what happened. Sailor Moon Healed it. The Negamoon Sisters: Catsy, Birdie, Prisma, Avery They were used by Rubeus and WiseMan. After seeing that she was no longer needed, Catsy almost killed herself with the bomb Rubeus gave her. Sailor Moon healed her. Then after Mercury talked with her, Sailor Moon healed Birdie. Then soon came the other 2, Prisma and Avery. Saphire: When he found out what Wiseman was really up to he tried to tell his brother Diamond. He went to his old girlfriend, Prisma) and told her. Wiseman brutally killed him in front of his older brother for betrayal. Diamond After Wiseman killed his younger brother, Saphire, he started to think that Wiseman wasnt doing what was good for his people. He kidnaped Sailor Moon and told her that he wanted to change. But he soon ended up sacrifising himself to save her Wicked Lady (aka Rini's evil alter ego.): Wiseman corrupted her mind with dark memories, and turned her to the dark side. However, at the end of R series, Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts helped her turned back to normal, and even defeated Wiseman together! Fiore: An old friend of Darien's, they met shortly after Darien's car accident that killed his parents. Possibly from the same race as Ann and Alan. He was possesed by a Kinsinian flower, but When he saw that the flower that Darien gave him was the one that Serena gave to Darien. After the silver crystal sharttered, he gave his life for Serena as his present that he promised Darien. Sovereign of Silence(Hotaru's first evil alter ego): The Sovreign was the evil deformed voice that came from HOtaru. She sat in a high throne, Surounded by stuffed animals, in a locked room of the science department of Mugen School. She gave orders to Dr Tomoe. Once, Hotaru awoke in the throne, confused and scared. She ran to rini, only when the Soveriegn felt the power of Rini's silver Crystal, she was almost reveiled and HOtaru ran off. Mistress 9 (Hotaru's second, evolved, evil alter ego): After the Soveriegn swallow Rini's pure heart crystal, she turned into this 16 yr old woman. She has hair that has a mind of it's own. She tricked Sailor Moon in giving her the Purity Chalice, which she put in a chamber to feed its power to Pharoah 90, who in turn tried to kill her cuz he/it was finished with her. Hotaru's spirit kept trying to fight Mistress 9's and with her father's love and Sailor Moon's power, Hotaru's spirit won and she vanished. She transformed into Sailor Saturn who returned Rini's heart crystal. Sailor Saturn died and was reborn at the end of S. Dr.Tomoe: When his daughter was killed in a lab accident, he gave up his own body to save her soul, unfortunatly, hotaru's body was also possesed. When Garoban (evil white blob) was destroyed by Uranus and Neptune, he was healed, but left weak. His love helped Sailor Moon heal Hotaru. When Saturn used 'Death, Reborn Revolution, along with Super Sailor moons ultra powerful pure heart crystal she was reborn and the Dr's memory was erased, so he can start over with raising her. I think he's still a Doctor in genetics. Amazon Trio: Tiger's Eye, Fish Eye and Hawk's Eye: they worked for the dead moon circus. They were animals as indicated by their names. Tiger's Eye's victims were young ladies, Hawk was keen into older woman, and Fish was keen into men (which explains the sex change CWI gave him). When Fish Eye discovered that they didn't have dreams, she asked Zirconia. They were shocked when they found they weren't even human. Hawk's eye gave up his life to protect Fish, and Tiger's Eye and Fish eye gave up their lives to fix Serena's dream. Pegasus made them humans and gave them dreams and took them to Elision. Side notes on them: Fish Eye is terrified by cats, her circus trick was knife throwing; Hawk doesn't like the dark because he can't see, his specialty was fire breathing; not sure what Tiger's Eye hated, but he's an animal trainer and great with a wip. Amazon Quartet: Vesu-Vesu, Jun-Jun, Para-Para and Cele-Cele When they discover that they were betrayed by the Dark Moon Circus, they decided to help the Sailor Scouts free Pegasus. Afterwards, they lived in Earth as normal girls. In the Manga for Sailor Stars, they are the Amazon Sailor Scouts: Sailor Vesta, Sailor Juno, Sailor Pallas, Sailor Ceres. Sailor Galaxia: The Villian of Sailor Moon Stars. Unknown on how she becomes good again. (it will remain a secret for those who are dubies!) How old are they? Complete information

Sailor Moon (美少女戦士セーラームーン, Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn?, officially translated as Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon) is the title of a famous media franchise created by Japanese manga artist Naoko Takeuchi. It is generally credited with popularizing the concept of a sentai (team) of magical girls (mahō shōjo), as well as the general (re-)emergence of the magical girl genre itself.

The story of the various metaseries revolves around the reincarnated defenders of a kingdom that once spanned the solar system, and the evil forces that they battle. The major characters—called Sailor Senshi (literally "Sailor Soldiers"; known as Sailor Scouts in the North American version)—are teenage girls who can transform into heroines named for the moon and planets (Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, etc).

The original manga resulted in spinoffs into many other types of media, including a highly popular anime, musical theatre productions, video games and a live-action tokusatsu series. Although most concepts in the many versions overlap, there are often notable differences, and thus there is limited continuity between the different formats.

Story
Fourteen-year-old Usagi Tsukino is an ordinary schoolgirl until she is found by a talking cat named Luna. Through Luna, Usagi learns that the world is about to be attacked by a Dark Kingdom that had appeared once before, long ago, and destroyed the kingdom of the moon. She is granted powers to defend the Earth against the coming onslaught, and is led to a number of friends who join her in the battle.

Usagi fights using the identity of Sailor Moon, and as the story progresses she learns more and more about the enemies which face her and the evil force that is sending them. Gradually she discovers the truth about her own past life, her destined true love, and the possibilities for the future of the Solar System.

The plot spans five major story arcs, each of which is represented in both the manga and the anime, usually under different names. These are the unnamed original arc, the Black Moon arc (Sailor Moon R), the Infinity arc (Sailor Moon S), the Dream arc (Sailor Moon SuperS), and the Stars arc (Sailor Stars).

Manga

The Sailor Moon series began as a manga drawn by Naoko Takeuchi. It was an evolution from her earlier Codename wa Sailor V idea, expanding the concept into a team of five girls rather than just one. [1] It is considered shōjo manga, and consists of five major plot-arcs. Its main series was serialized in Kodansha's Nakayoshi from 1992 to 1995, and the side-stories were serialized in Kodansha's Run Run. All were eventually published in book form by Kodansha, in two different editions (one as the series was produced, and the other beginning in 2003).

Naoko Takeuchi devised the idea when she wanted to făurite a cute series about girls in outer space, and her editor asked her to put them in sailor fuku. [1] The story's themes are an amalgamation of Takeuchi's various passions, including astronomy, astrology, Greek myth, Roman myth, geology, Japanese elemental themes, and schoolgirl antics. Sailor Moon is also a fusion of the popular magical girl and sentai genres of which Takeuchi was a fan,[2] one of the first series ever to combine the two.

Anime

The Sailor Moon anime was produced by Toei Animation, and started airing only a month after the first issue of the manga was published. With 200 episodes airing between March 1992 and February 1997, Sailor Moon is one of the longest magical girl anime series.[3] The anime sparked a highly successful merchandising campaign, which contributed to demand all over the world and translation into numerous languages. Sailor Moon has since become one of the most famous anime properties in the world.

Strictly speaking, Sailor Moon is an anime metaseries. It consists of five separate television series, which are often incorrectly referred to as seasons by English-speaking fans. Each series roughly corresponds to one of the five major story arcs of the manga. There were also three theatrically-released movies, as well as four rarisim animated shorts.

All of Sailor Moon was animated traditionally. It was directed at different times by Junichi Satō and Kunihiko Ikuhara. Character estetică was headed by Kazuko Tadano and Ikuko Itoh, both of whom were also animation directors. Other animation directors included Masahiro Ando, Hisashi Kagawa, and Hideyuki Motohashi

Musicals

The musical stage shows, usually referred to collectively as Sera Myu, were a series of live theatre productions that played over 800 performances in some 26 musicals between 1993 and 2005. The stories of the shows include original plotlines as well as a large amount of new material.

The series ran twice a year, in the winter and in the summer. In the summer, the only venue for the musicals was the Sunshine Theatre in the Ikebukuro area of Tokyo; however, in the winter it went on tour to the larger cities in Japan.

The final incarnation of the series, The New Legend of Kaguya Island [Revised Edition] (新・かぐや島伝説 <25913>, Shin Kaguyashima Densetsu (Kaiteban)?), was staged in January 2005. After the January 2005 show, the series went on a "hiatus", according to the current producer, BMO. [citation needed]There have been no signs that the show will continue.

A live-action version of Sailor Moon was broadcast from October 4, 2003 through September 25, 2004. The series is known officially as Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (usually abbreviated to PGSM by fans), and it is the first series in the franchise to have a fully English title. It lasted a integral of 49 episodes, and the broadcast originated from the Tokyo Broadcasting System. Another 28 television stations in Japan retransmitted the series. [citation needed]

The series' storyline more closely follows the original manga than the anime at first, but in later episodes it proceeds into a significantly different storyline from either, with original characters and new plot developments.

In addition to the main episodes, there were two direct-to-video releases after the show ended its television broadcast. These were the "Special Act" (the wedding of Usagi and Mamoru), set several years after the series ended, and "Act Zero", a prequel which showed the origins of Sailor V and Tuxedo Mask.

Video games

Several Sailor Moon console and arcade games were released in Japan. With the exception of the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon game developed by Angel, which was released in France in 1996[citation needed], not a single one of these were released outside of Japan. [citation needed] The games are hard to find in any other country unless downloaded from the internet as ROMs.

Bandai produced a small number of Sailor Moon games, but the majority were handled by a Japanese game company called Angel. The early games were side-scrolling fighters, whereas the later games were unique puzzle games, and even later titles chose to use a versus fighting game style. Another Story was a role-playing game.

The games mainly saw release on the Extra Famicom, with the first side-scroller being ported to the Sega Mega Drive. A separate arcade side-scrolling fighter was also released. In addition, two side-scrolling adventure games were produced for the Game Boy (Sailormoon and Sailormoon R), and a side-scrolling game was also produced for the Game Gear (Sailormoon S), as well as a game for the PC Engine. A final versus fighting game was released for the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation. The last Sailor Moon-related game to date was released in November 2001 - Happy Chibiusa World. It is unknown whether further games are planned, but it is unlikely.

English-dubbed anime
After a bidding war between Toon Makers and DiC Entertainment, DiC (which at the time was owned by The Walt Disney Company) acquired the rights to the first 72 episodes of Sailor Moon, consisting of the entire first series and two-thirds of Sailor Moon R. Through the omission of 6 episodes and the merging of two, the total episode count was reduced to 65, the minimum number of episodes required for strip syndication on US television. The remaining episodes were each cut by several minutes to make room for more commercials, to censor plot points or visuals deemed inappropriate for children, and to allow the insertion of "educational" segments called "Sailor Says" at the end of each episode. The remaining 17 episodes of Sailor Moon R were adapted later, and were treated in much the same way.

The English adaptations by Cloverway of Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon SuperS (the third and fourth series) stayed relatively close to the original Japanese versions, and no episodes were skipped or merged.

The 5th and final series (Sailor Stars) has never yet been licensed for adaptation into English. As of May 2004, the rest of the series has officially gone off the air in all-English speaking countries due to lapsed licenses which have not been renewed.

English-language manga
The manga was translated into English in 1997 by manga publisher Mixx (now renamed Tokyopop). The US comic was released as three series: "Sailor Moon", which collects the first three arcs (the Dark Kingdom, Black Moon, and Infinity arcs), Sailor Moon SuperS, which collects the SuperS arc, and Sailor Moon Stars, which collects the Sailor Stars arc. They feature all of the content from the original manga collections (though with names changed to those used in the English anime), as well as the occasional new sketch and "thank you" commentary from series creator Naoko Takeuchi.

As of May 2005, Tokyopop's license to the Sailor Moon manga has lapsed, and the English-language manga is out of print.
